How to store fresh peas for long (Frozen Peas)

Storing green peas in the freezer is an excellent way to preserve their freshness and nutritional value for extended period. Freezing green peas properly ensures that they remain vibrant, tender, and flavourful for long, making them a handy ingredient for various dishes throughout the year.

This process involves a few key steps that help maintain the quality and texture of the peas, such as blanching to lock in colour and nutrients before freezing.

Ingredients :

  • Fresh Peas Pods; 2 kg.
  • sugar; 1 tablespoon or Meetha soda: 1 pinch
  • Water:

Preparation:

  1. Remove the peas from pods, keep aside.

Method:

Blanching the peas:

  1. Boil about 3 litre of water in a big pot; when water starts to boil actively and vigorously (with large bubbles rising continuously on the surface).
  2. Add 1 tablespoon sugar or pinch of Meetha soda (help to maintain vibrant colour) to the boiling water, cook for couple of minutes.
  3. immediately transfer to ice cold water (3 litres) to make the cooling process fast. Drain out water using soup strainer/ colander.
  4. Once peas are cooled, transfer into ziplock freezer safe bag.
  5. You may store in freezer safe container too.
  6. Enjoy the frozen peas throughout the year.
  7. With little effort it is safer than purchase from store.
