Amala (goose berry) ki chutney

Gooseberry Chutney, also known as Amla Chutney, is nutritious condiment. This chutney is a blend of gooseberries with a mix of spices, herbs, and sometimes a touch of sweetness, creating a perfect balance of flavours.

Rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants, Gooseberry Chutney is not only delicious but also packed with health benefits. It’s a versatile accompaniment that pairs well with a variety of dishes, from simple Dal and Rice to Flax Seed Paratha and Snacks.

In our place, Mithila region, Gooseberry Chutney holds a special place in traditional cuisine and is often served with millet roti, known locally as “Ragi roti.” The combination of the tangy chutney with the earthy, slightly nutty flavour of millet roti creates a delightful balance of taste and texture.

This pairing is not only delicious but also nutritious, offering a wholesome meal that is rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

Ingredients:

  • Amla (goose berry): 100gm.
  • kala namak: half teaspoon
  • Salt:  half teaspoon (as per taste)
  • Green chilli: 2 no. (As per taste)
  • Garlic: 3-4 flakes
  • Ginger: 1”pieces
  • Tulasi (Indian basil):10-15 leaves
  • Mustard oil/olive oil: half teaspoon (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Clean amala and chop into small pieces, discard the seed.
  2. Wash and clean Tulasi leaf properly.
  3. Chop chilli, garlic and ginger into small pieces.

Method:

  1. Grind all ingredients together to fine paste.
  2. Chatpati “Amala ki Chutney” is ready to serve with breakfast or meal.
