“Homemade Namkin Jave (also known as Homemade Salted Punjabi Jave or Savory Vermicelli)” is a comforting and flavourful North Indian dish that combines simplicity with tradition.

Made using roasted homemade jave cooked in mild spices, it’s a light yet satisfying meal often enjoyed for breakfast or evening snacks.

This dish beautifully balances the taste of roasted jave with mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chilies, and assorted vegetables.

A touch of salt and spice makes it the wholesome without being heavy. In Punjab and Harayana homes, Namkin Jave is often prepared with love using homemade roasted jave, giving it a unique aroma and taste.

Served hot with tea or curd.

Ingredients:

  • Jave (Homemade Punjabi Jave): 1 cup
  • Olive oil/Cooking oil: 3 tablespoon
  • Green chilli: 1no.
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon (as per taste)
  • Onion: 1 no. (Medium)
  • Ginger: 2” piece.
  • Potato: 1 no. (Medium)
  • Tomato: 1 no.
  • Peas: 1/4 cup
  • Beans: 5-6 no.
  • Carrot: 1 no.
  • Green Capsicum: 1 no.
  • Red Bell Pepper: 1 no.
  • Yellow Bell Pepper: 1 no.
  • Turmeric Powder: 2 pinch
  • Coriander Powder: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin Powder: 1/4 teaspoon
  • Cumin: ½ teaspoon
  • Water: 2 cups
  • Coriander leaves (chopped): 2 tablespoon
  • Cashew nuts: 8-10 no.

Preparation:

  1. Chop potato, onion, tomato, green chilli, bell pepper, capsicum, carrot, beans, ginger and coriander leaves, keep aside.

Method:

  1. Take a fry pan, put 1 tablespoon of oil; shallow fry jave on low flame until golden in colour, take out from pan, keep aside.
  2. In a same pan, put remaining oil; when oil starts to smoke add cumin, sputter for few seconds add cashew nut, stir fry on lower flame for a minute.
  3. Add chopped potato and beans, stir fry on medium flame for couple of minutes.
  4. Add chopped carrot, tomato and onion continue to fry for couple of minutes.
  5. Add salt, turmeric powder, coriendar cumin powder and peas; continue frying for few seconds.
  6. Add 2 cups of water, when water begins to boil, add fried jave; cook for about 3-4 minutes on medium flame till it is 80% done.
  7. Add chopped all colours bell pepper; cook for a minute.
  8. Add coriander leaves, serve hot. Garnish with fried cashew-nut.
