Mattar (pea) chop

“Mattar (pea) chop)” is a delicious North Indian snacks.  It combines a crispy outer layer made from mashed potatoes with a flavourful stuffing of spiced peas. These fried delights are perfect for a tea-time snack or as an appetizer at gatherings.

The peas filling contrasts beautifully with the golden, crispy exterior, making Muttar Chops a treat that everyone enjoys. Whether served with chutney or ketchup, this snack brings warmth and comfort, especially during chilly evenings.

Ingredients:

  • Potato: 250gm
  • Corn flour/bread slice: 20gm/1 no.
  • Salt: 1 tea spoon label/as per taste
  • Oil: for deep frying

Ingredients for stuffing:

  • Peas: half cup
  • Cumin: 1/4 teaspoon
  • Fennel Seeds: 1/4 teaspoon
  • Onion: one (small)
  • Green chilli: 1no.
  •  Coriander leaves: 1 tablespoon (fine chopped)
  • Oil: 1 tablespoon
  • Black Salt: 2 pinch black
  • black Pepper powder: half teaspoon

Preparation:

  1. Boil the potato, peel and mash; add salt and corn flour. Make dough.

For making stuffing:

  1. Heat oil in a fry pan; add cumin, funnel seed, sputter for few seconds.
  2.  Add onion and green chilli; Stir fry on medium flame for a minute or until  colour change.
  3. Add peas continue to fry on lower flame with cover on. (Stir occasionally).
  4. Fry until it is half done, (About 3- 4 minutes)
  5. Add salt, continue to cook until peas are done.
  6. Transfer the fillings into the bowl.

Method:

  1.  Divide dough into 8-10 parts, make  lemon size balls.
  2. Stuff with filling, Fold it and seal the edges by pleating.
  3. Fold the edges into the centre and joint properly.
  4. Make it round in shape.
  5. Heat oil till smoke is coming.
  6.  Deep fry each ball till it gets golden brown.
  7. Tasty  teatime snacks is ready to be serve with any chutney.
