Muli (radish) ki chutney

The South Indian version of “Muli (radish) ki Chutney” offers a delightful twist on the traditional radish chutney. In this recipe, chopped/grated radish (mooli) is combined with roasted chana dal (bengal gram), urad dal (black gram), dried red chilies, and fresh coconut, which are all ground together to create a thick, aromatic paste.

The chutney is then tempered with a classic South Indian tadka (seasoning) of mustard seeds, curry leaves, and asafoetida, which infuses it with fragrant aroma.

The addition of tamarind provides a tangy contrast to the pungent radish and the rich, nutty flavours of the roasted dal and coconut. This version of Mooli ki Chutney pairs wonderfully with Dosas, Idlis, or even Rice, offering a unique combination of flavours that reflect the vibrant culinary traditions of South India.
