Raw papaya ka bhujia

Raw or green papaya is eaten in different part of India; papaya is the excellent source of soluble fiber, It contains an enzyme called papain, which aids in easy digestion.

Papaya in both ripe and raw is extremely rich source of vitamin C.

Ingredients:

  • Raw papaya: 1 no.
  • Onion: 1 no. (Medium size)
  • Green chilli: 2 no.
  • Coriander powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic flakes: 2-3 no.
  • Ginger: 1 inch pieces
  • Mustard oil/cooking oil: 3-4 table spoon
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon (as per taste)
  • Cumin seed: half teaspoon
  • Garam masala powder: half teaspoon

Preparation:

  1. Peel off papaya, discard the seeds and make thin slice. Keep aside.
  2. Cut onion into small pieces. Keep aside.
  3.  Slit green chilli. Keep aside.
  4. Chop ginger and garlic into small pieces. Keep aside.

Method:

  1. Put oil in a heavy bottom pan, when it  starts to smoke; add cumin seed, sputter for few seconds, add onion, green chilli, ginger and garlic into it.
  2. Stir fry on medium flame for couple of minutes or until it become light brown in colour; add raw papaya and continue to fry with lid on, cook on Medium to Lower heat until papaya becomes done(about 7-8 minutes).
  3. Add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt; continue to fry another 3-4 minutes till it becomes light brown colour.
  4. “Raw Papaya ka Bhujia” is ready to serve with Roti, Dost Paratha or as a side disc.
