Singhare ke aate ka Halwa (Water Chestnut porridge)

Fasting in Navratri days very common in north India, Navratri is celebrated in different ways across the country, in Gujarat it is celebrated with Garva dance, performed all nine nights. These days Garva is not limited to Gujarat only, more or less it is popular not all over India but all over world too.

Mahagauri is worshiped on the 8th day of Navratri. It is said to be Gauri has the power to fulfil all the desire of her devotees. Let’s come to ‘Phalahari Thali day 8‘ and think of ‘Singhare ke aate ka Halwa’.

Ingredients:

  • Singhare ka aate(Water chestnut flour): 50 gm.
  • Sugar: 80-90 gm.
  • Ghee: 50 gm.
  • Green cardamom: 3-4 no.
  • Cashew nut: 10-15 no.
  • Raisin: 15-20 no.
  • Water: 3 cups (hot water, using hot water prevents lump formation)

Preparation:

  1. Grease a plate with ½ teaspoon of ghee, keep aside.
  2. Discard the skin of cardamom, crush it. Keep aside
  3. Fry cashew nut with ghee on lower flame. Keep aside.

Method:

  1. Heat ghee in a fry pan; add Singhare ka aate, roast Singhare ka aate on medium low flame till it gets golden brown in colour(about 3-4 minutes).
  2. Add hot water slowly and stir continuously to avoid the lumps, for about couple of minutes, add sugar and stir continuously till consistency come as Halwa (ghee is separated from the sides.)
  3. Add raisin and cardamom powder, stir to mix well.
  4. Take out the “Halwa” into greased plate and garnish with cashew nut as per your choice, Let it be cool for about 10-20 minutes and cut this with help of sharp knife into your desired shape. “Singhare ke aate ka Halwa (water chestnut porridge)” is ready to serve.
