Sooran/suran/oal/jimikand (elephant yam) ki chutney

It is considered as low fat food. It is natural care for constipation because of rich in fiber.

It has a number of health benefits and medicinal value in Ayurveda.

It is prescribed for piles, elephantiasis, dysentery, and many more disease.

Ingredients:

  • suran/oal/jimikand (elephant yam): 250 gm
  • Green chilli: 3-4 no.
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon
  • Ajwain(Carrom seed): 1/4 teaspoon
  • Kalonji(Nigella sativa): 1/4 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder: one teaspoon
  • Ginger: 1 teaspoon (paste or pieces)
  • Garlic: 1 teaspoon (paste or pieces)
  • Mustard oil/olive oil: 1 tablespoon
  • Mango powder: half teaspoon (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Clean and peel off the Suran, wash thoroughly; chop them into big slices.
  2. Boil it till done. (You can boil it in open vassal, pressure cooker or microwave).
  3. Drain the water, mash it with hand or masher properly and keep aside.
  4. Chop green chilli and keep aside.

Method:

  1. In a bowl put all ingredients with mashed suran.
  2. Mix well. Better you mix, testier it will be.
  3. Now, suran chutney is ready to serve with any Indian bread or side dish..
