Guys do you ever heard Thalipeeth?

Yes, it is traditional  breakfast recipe originated in Maharashtra, can be enjoyed as meal or brunch. Once upon a time preparing Bhanjani (roasted mixed flour) was tedious job. But now variety of Bhanjani flour are available in online shop or grocery store.

It is very easy to prepare breakfast, if you have Bhanjani flour in hand. Just prepare Thalipeeth (a kind of flat thick bread), serve with curd and Thecha/ Pickle. A perfect example of balance meal.  If serving as breakfast don’t forget to make some hot Ginger Chai or Mango Lassi.

Today’s recipe is “Upvash Bhanjani Thalipeeth” great recipe for fasting days, I bought from D-Mart which is adjacent to our society complex.

Let’s prepare truly mouth watering Maharashtrian Thalipeeth…

Ingredients:

  • Upvash Bhanjani (flour): 2 cups
  • Mint leaves: 1 tablespoon (Chopped)
  • Ginger: 2” piece
  • Pink Rock Salt: 1 teaspoon (as per taste)
  • Green chilli: 1-2 (as per taste)
  • Roasted and coarsely ground Peanut: 4 tablespoon
  • Cumin: 1 teaspoon
  • Boiled Potatoes: 2 no. (medium size)
  • Hot water
  • Ghee (Clarified Butter): 50-60 gm. (For roasting)

Preparation:

  1. Grate ginger and boiled Potatoes, keep aside.
  2. Chop green chilli and mint leaves, keep aside.
  3. Roughly grind peanut, keep aside.
  4. Take a wide vessel, put flour; add all ingredients, mix well. Knead the mixture with help of Luke warm water by putting it in small quantity, make soft and smooth dough. You can knead this in food processor too.

Method:

  1. Divide the dough into 4-5 parts with wet hand; here I gave shape to Thalipeeth directly on greased Non-Stick-Tawa with help of damp fingers as shown in the photo. (It will be approximately twice thicker than normal chapatti).
  2. Make  one hole in the centre and 3- 4 holes at the sides. It helps in frying the Thalipeeth well.
  3. Sprinkle some oil in the holes as well as the edges.Cover with a lid and let the Thalipeeth cook for 2- 3 minutes; Cook on medium flame.
  4. When Thalipeeth changes its colour turn to other side and  continue to cook for another side for 2-3 minutes (this side should be cooked little more than 1st side), brown spot should be visible.
  5. Apply ghee both sides and turn it again and cook on medium low flame. Now “Upvash Bhanjani/ Bhanjanee (Fasting Mix Flour) Thalipeeth is ready, it can be served with “Saffron Cardamon Shree khand/ Sri Khand” and Fresh Fruits.
