“Putra Jitiya Thali (Parana Thali)” is a traditional festive meal prepared to celebrate the end of the Jitiya Vrat, a sacred fast (Nirjala and Nirahar) observed by mothers for the long life and well-being of their children.
This thali reflects the essence of Bihari and some region of utter pradesh, home-style cooking, where every dish carries cultural and emotional significance.
For this special occasion in our family tradition, I prepared a wholesome and flavourful dishes that included Steamed Basmati Rice, Chana Dal Tadka, Kanda (Taro/colocasia or kolokas) ki Sabji, Pui Saag (Malabar Spinach) and Kushi Kerao (Black Peas) ki Sabji, along with an assortment of Crispy Fritters.
For completing the Thali I served along with Curd, Salad and Sweets…
Each dish in the “Parana Thali” is thoughtfully chosen; balancing nutrition, tradition and taste. The thali not only marks the joyous completion of the fast but also celebrates the deep-rooted connection between food, faith, and family in Indian culture.
