Banana flower Gatte ka masala

This is one of the variations from ‘Besan Gatte ki sabji, This is Very delicious and spicy, serve this with Plane Rice or Missie Roti.

Ingredients:

For Gatte:

  • Besan: 1 cup
  • Banana flower: 1 no. (Medium size), One cup boiled
  • Poppy seed (khus-khus): 1 tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder: half teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic paste: half teaspoon
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon
  • Roasted cumin seed powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Mustard oil/cooking oil: 1 tablespoon

For masala:

  • Cumin seed: half teaspoon
  • Kalonji (nigella sativa): ¼ teaspoon
  • Bay leaf: 1 no.
  • Red chilli: 1 no.
  • Garlic paste: half teaspoon
  • Ginger paste: 1 teaspoon
  • Onion: 2 (Medium size)
  • Tomato: 2 no. (Medium size)
  • Green chilli: 2 no.
  • Ginger: 1 teaspoon (paste)
  • Coriander powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala powder: half teaspoon
  • Coriander leaf: 2 table spoon (chopped)
  • Red chilli powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Ghee (Clarified butter): 1 teaspoon

Preparation:

  1. Cut 1 onion and 1 tomato into small pieces, Keep aside.
  2. Make wet masala from another onion, tomato, ginger and garlic with help of grinder, keep aside.
  3. Slit green chilli, keep aside.

Method:

  1. Take one big ball, put Besan, banana flower, ½ tea spoon salt, 1 teaspoon oil, turmeric powder, chilli powder, roasted cumin powder, garlic paste, ginger paste, poppy seed and make the dough like roti dough. Due to moist banana flower, for making dough, water may not be needed most of the time but if required sprinkle some water.
  2. Divide this dough into 2 parts. (You can make more as per your wish), Make it like stick by rolling it.
  3. Boil 3 cups of water with 1 teaspoon oil. Put both rolls into the boiling water in the medium flame and boil it for ~ 10 minutes.
  4. Remove it from the water and allow to cool, Cut it into small pieces (it is called “Gatte”).
  5. Take a fry pan and heat 50 ml oil, when it starts to smoke add boiled and cut Gatte in it.
  6. Dip fry this, and remove from the fry pan. Keep aside.

Making masala:

  1. Keep the fry pan on the flame. Pour oil.
  2. After heating, add bay leaf, cumin seed, Kalonji and red chilli, sputter it for few seconds.
  3. Add onion; fry it on high flame for about 2-3 minutes or till onion gets light brown in colour.
  4. Add tomatoes; continue to fry  on lower flame  for 4-5 minutes  or till oil separates from it.
  5. Add wet masala, continue to fry for couple of minutes or  till oil separates from the masala, add half spoon of salt, chilli powder, coriander powder, slit green chilli and turmeric powder, and Fry it for 1-2 minutes. Add 1 cup of water slowly.
  6. After boiling add fried Gatte, lower the flame, Allow to boil for couple of minutes, add Garam masala powder and ghee cover the lid and put off the flame. Keep covered for 5 minutes.
  7. Pour it into the serving bowl. Decorate with coriander Leaves.
  8. Now Banana flower Gatte ka masala is ready to serve.Serve this with plane rice or Missie roti.
