Satuani Thali 2

Satuani Thali 2

This year, I prepared a variety of delicious sattu dishes to celebrate Satuani festival.

Satuani is a traditional festival celebrated in Bihar, especially in the Mithila region, marking the beginning of the New Year and the arrival of summer.

On this day, people eat sattu (roasted gram flour); the festival highlights the importance of simple, nutritious food that helps the body stay cool in the hot season.

I made a refreshing “Sweet Sattu Drink” with a special twist by adding cashew nut, almond, and green cardamom powder. The richness of dry fruits enhanced the taste, while the aroma of cardamom made it even more delightful.

A Salted Sattu Drink with a traditional touch. It was made using finely sliced onion, green chilli, and garnished with fresh coriander leaves for added freshness.

To enhance the flavour, I added roasted cumin powder, which gave it a delicious earthy taste. This drink was light, cooling, and perfect for summer.

Along with these, I also prepared Sattu Laddu, beautifully decorated with colourful gems, making them attractive and festive.

Along with this, I made Salted Sattu Dough, which is traditionally enjoyed with pickle, onion, and green chilli. This simple yet satisfying combination brings out the authentic taste of Satuani and reflects the essence of traditional food habits.

To complete the Thali; I prepared Sweet Sattu Dough which reflected the traditional flavours and importance of sattu during this festival.

The variety of sattu dishes added both flavour and cultural richness to the celebration.

These wholesome and cooling dishes made the celebration special and enjoyable while keeping the body nourished and refreshed.

It is believed that consuming sattu provides relief from the scorching summer heat.

Sattu is known for its cooling properties, which help in keeping the body hydrated and energised during hot days. It not only refreshes the body but also aids digestion and maintains overall health.

This is why sattu-based dishes are especially prepared and enjoyed during festivals like Satuani, as they naturally protect the body from extreme heat and promote well-being.
